Orphanage Expansion/Boys Dormitory

Orphanage Expansion/Boys Dormitory

With the children in the orphanage growing and increasing in age, the current living conditions at the orphanage are becoming more and more difficult. Most of the children are teenagers and moving into early adulthood. Because of this, there is a sense of urgency to provide a place for the boys to live separately from the girls. Our goal for Phase 2 of the high school project is to build a dormitory for the older boys, located next to the new school and directly in relation to Pastor Hassan’s home. The boy’s dormitory is a $25,000 project.

Poultry Project

Poultry Project

Currently, the children in the orphanage eat 2 bowls of rice per day, and on occasion, eat a very small amount of fruit. With food costs continuing to rise in Sierra Leone, the children lack protein in their diet. It would benefit the orphanage immensely to have a poultry barn where the children could raise chickens, along with a few goats, so that they might have resources to produce eggs and milk. The cost of the poultry project is $75,000, and would include the barn, building of chicken coupes, chickens, and all necessary equipment.

Road Rehabilitation Project

Road Rehabilitation Project

Currently, the Wellington Orphanage sits about ½ mile up a very steep grade hill. The conditions are so bad that even 4-wheel vehicles have the most difficult time climbing the hill. The road, full of large rocks, trenches, and uneven ground, is something the children walk at least twice daily. The conditions do not allow for mail, deliveries of supplies, or heavy equipment for construction purposes to reach the orphanage. The orphanage would benefit greatly from a paved road that would give easy access to travel to and from its location. The pavement of the road to the Wellington Orphanage is a $16,000 project.
